CFunK, my computer is only reading my processor @ Athlon 1800+, I have a 2400+ though! Can you or anyone else help me?!?!

You have to go into your BIOS. Usually by hitting delete button at startup before Windows. Tell me the name of your BIOS. If you have the M/board manual it will tell you exactly how to do it. Just don't go more than what your CPU is named or you will overclock it thus void warranty and possibly burnout CPU.

Hhmm, I was going to go through BIOS, but didn't know for sure that I could change it through there. I'm runnin the 2400+ which isn't good for oc'n so I'm not gonna attempt that. Not sure what BIOS I have tho.

Yes, that is where you change it. Go to your M/B's website you should be able to D/Load the manual for your board. I'd tell you how to do it but its not as easy thru here you can make mistakes. It's better if you read it in the manual as you do it. What's the name of M/board?

Canadian,

How did you make out?

Sounds like your fsb speed is set too low (default?). Check your processor setting options, what is the current configuration?

Sorry, I have been gone for a few days. Chop is right, set your FSB to 133 (in the BIOS) and you should be back up to speed.

I will be on MSN later tonight if you need some help.

Aahh, just found the FSB was set @ 100 mhz?!?!? Why would it do that? I just set it to 133 mhz and all is well. 2400+ now. Hhmm, what if I set it to more mhz? I'm not one to o/c, but would it let me and would it be SAFE? Thanks guys.

Canadian,

Glad you got it going now. Sorry I didn't help you more but I didn't know how much you knew. I didn't want to send you into the BIOS w/out a manual. Since CFunk helped you before on phone he has a better idea of your knowledge.

As far as O/Cing that's up to you. I would advise you to get a better than stock heatsink and fan first and don't over do it or you will be buying a new CPU. My advice is let it alone. smile.gif

Well, I only o/c'd it 5 points up. Gain of 100 MHZ. I don't want to go any higher or my system will become unstable, which proved to be around 145, so I just stepped it down afew. It is running perfectly fine now. All I need is a program to see what the CPU temperature is at now. Any ideas?? Thanks.

Overclocking seems to be less productive these days since AMD cpu speeds are hovering in the 2000mhz range (real clock speed, not the comparative speeds they use to name the cpu). At 100 mhz oc you only gained about a 6% increase in speed from your factory rating (not very significant). Is that really worth risking the stability and lifespan of your system?

If you can swap memory to another type with a higher fsb rating you might be able to oc more, but will the cpu be stable? How hot will it run? How long will the cpu last at that speed and temp?

Your bios should have a System Health selection that can give you an accurate cpu temp at idle. To get the temp at full load you will need some software to run from windows. MSI should have hardware monitor software available free on their site- try it!

CPU temperature = 44*
System temperature = 28*

Are those good temps? Thanks for all the info. BTW, I turned FSB down to regular 133 MHZ. I got to thinking and it isn't worth the extra 100 MHZ for shortening the life span of the cpu, etc.
