my '94 z28 with 6-speed has twice gotten so sticky, i thought the tranny was going. Like stirring molasses! the 1st time it was after 3 hard-shifting runs at the track. after 15 minutes, it magically went away.
the last time was this week. i had to valet park it (which i almost never do) and when i got the car back, the stickiness was there. this time it took over 24 hours to return to normal. and it did, smooth shifting as ever.
has anyone had this before? it just made 50,000 miles and i've made an appt. on may 24 to have the tranny and diff. fluid change.
also thinking of replacing it. Is the Hurst shifter good?

Get rid of that junk shifter. I hate the stock shifter. I have a Hurst Billet Plus in my '96 Ram Air Trans Am and I like it.

Are you shure it isn't the clutch dragging?

besides replacing the shifter, go to a truck stop and get Lucas oil products transmission fix. it is for Manuals and Automatics, it looks like Molasses and is red as blood. it works wonders, and is only 8.99 a bottle.

I'm thinking when the clutch gets hot you are getting warping of the flywheel, disc, or pressure plate. The first thing I'd do is talk to your local dealer and see if he's heard of that problem.
Have him look for any TSB- Technical Service Bulletins.
Also, there may be a problem with your hydraulic clutch. Make shure it has fluid.
