FROM THE AD:
Pertronix Lobe Sensor Ignitor Introducing the new Lobe Sensor Ignitor for GM V8s
The same great performance as the original 1181 Ignitor, but much easier to install. No need to pull the distributor, no shimming, no magnet ring. The original 1181 Ignitor will still be available upon request, but we will only stock the Lobe Sensor Ignitors. They are well worth the few extra dollars.
NOTE: The lobe sensor Ignitors mount on the far side of the breaker plate where the condenser originally went, not on the near side where the points attached. All mount holes will line up with the Ignitor in that position.

ANYBODY know anything about these? i have a 69 camaro ss 396/350 hp with 4 speed.
the motor has been bored and it is now a 402 with a hotter cam,
stock intake and exhaust manifolds and a stock 750 cfm carb, it now has a MSD
6AL ignition box with a MSD blaster coil and stock distributor (points).
i would like to upgrade the distributor to a pointless one, i was thinking about the MSD Street Pro-Billet, PN 8361 ($185)
will the ignitor offer me the same/ almost as much performance?
is this just a drop-in installation with no other wiring or items needed?
will my factory tach still work?
if this is close, i tink i might much rather keep my factory distributor and save the $120.

Mike,
I looked at the "lobe sensor" set up at the PRI show. It looks pretty good but I think that for the level of the rest of your electronics are at, I would go with a magnetic pickup type setup. I would call Pertronix and ask them the same questions you asked here. They seem to be genuinely interested in helping customers and I think they will steer you the right direction. They can also tell you if your stock tach will work. One thing I would not do,is get a distributor without vacuum advance. For a street machine, it is absolutely needed for correct low and midrange performance. I have been preaching this for years and it was verified by the guys at a Mallory tech seminar I just attended this weekend.
Hope this helps,

I was also thinking about using the Pertronix setup for stock appearance on my 67 327. I heard that the distributor would have to be re-curved due to the weight difference of the components, is this true?
