I have a problem with determining the type of exhaust manifold / headers / exhaust for my 396 Convertible.
It will have a 700r4 behind it, and I've bought a Chassisworks 700r4 crossmember for the tranny (that actually gives a few inches more room as it bends up).
I don't want loud noise in the convertible.
I don't want the exhaust to hang down at all - I've gone through that and hate it.
I'm now also wondering about putting BB exhaust manifolds on to ease the problems that headers always have (bolts loosening, gaskets screwing up, overheating the starter, getting in the way of the steering linkage, etc.).
To be honest, the engine was just built nicely and it doesn't need anymore horsepower as I won't be going to the track and I don't want to twist the convertible frame (although I do have frame connectors in now).
So, if I go headers, do you know a shortie header that's good quality and works?
How about the pipes? A good quality 2 1/2" or so system and how about Flowmaster 30s for not being too loud but a good sound.
And the most important thing - no hanging down.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
