: Short Oil Filter???

I have a little clearance situation. Here's the deal, I have a "pancake" adapter (~2") for my oil cooler connections, now I have a different pan on this engine that has kick outs. The long filter is WAY too long and the short filter is about 3/4 - 1" too long. They hit the kick out on the pan. Does anyone make a shorter filter (that is good quality)? This is on a SBC. I would rather not go remote on the filter, but I will if I have to. Any other suggestions? I am heading over to Napa Auto parts to see what they have.

A shorter 'Short' filter - :D - never heard of one, but never asked either.
They make a longer 'Long' filter though so I don't see why there couldn't be one...
I know this is a little late - but, you are half-way to a remote (or double remote) filter set-up anyway so maybe you should consider that direction.
As I'm sure you already know, Summit and others have kits for this. You can also use parts from several of the marine engine suppliers to remote mount.

Well they do not make a shorter short filter. At least I could not find one and Napa didn't have one listed (we even went by dimensions). I went out and bought most of the stuff to go to a remote filter, but now I am having second thoughts. I really don't have a "clean" place to put the filter. I think I will just remove the oil cooler and spin a filter on (monitor the oil temp and se if I even need a cooler). I have been running it for years, but hopefully it was overkil. We'll see.

What filter does your pancake adapter take?? I have an oil cooler adapter that uses the Ford FL1A.

There are a lot of short options for this filter if it's what your using. I have header and oil pan clearance issues on my engine. I think I have a PF53 on it now.

Another good choice is the filter Toyota sells for pretty much any 4 cylinder truck from the mid 80's until now. If you buy the genuine Toyota ones, they have great filter media, will take very high pressure, and flow better than most HP filters!! My body man gave me an earfull, but nobody else ever saw the japanese filter under my engine!!

Paul that is good info. My adapter uses standard small block filters. I went ahead and took off my oil cooler, I will monitor the oil temps and if it doesn't work out I will look into the Toyota filter idea. Thanks for the info.

a really clean, relatively cheap remote oil filter mount was used on late model S10 4X4's with a 4.3- it has a really low profile adapter that mounts to the block, and it mounts the filter (PF52 or equivalent)up on the driver's side inner fender. you can run an oil cooler off the filter mount, as well. takes care of all your problems.

For the maxiumum filtration down to 1/10th micron level you can step up to the bypass filter system such as this one:

Novaderrik has a good point. My brother's 93 S15 4X4 had that set-up. It was neat.
