I have a question regarding the 2 fuel lines used on a Q-Jet. I had posted earlier on if anyone knew why the Q-Jets came with a fuel return line but didn't get much response so I'll ask it in a different way.

Is there a need to have the return line? If I put a Q-Jet on without it will I have any problems? Will it flood out at idle or have vapor lock problems?

I currently have a Holley 750DP and am happy with it but it runs pretty rich and uses a whole bunch of gas (right foot doesn't help much! :D ).

My buddy's Q-Jet car (69 396) gets probably 50% more mileage at cruise speed and still runs about as well as mine so I'm just looking for options with gas over $2 gallon.

The only places I've seen two fuel lines is on a Pontiac ('70 GTO) I owned, from the fuel pump and from a BBC Camaro from the fuel filter mounted probably even with the pass cylinder head. This particular return line went to the inlet of the mech pump. The GTO's return line went back to the tank.

They were done this way to prevent vapor lock and for pressure regulation. But, now with new fuel recipe and EFI, its old hat. Q-jets require less fuel pressure, 5-7psi vs. 6-9 psi for a Holley. Q-jets have smaller primary bores resulting in alittle more MPG. I ran a Q-jet for many years, 7, at the track and in my go-to-work Camaro I had at one time, I wished I never got rid of.

Will it boil out when turned off? Probably, but not any worse than with a Holley. Would I run one on the street? Sure, I have no problems with them.

To each their own. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
