Im about to swap out the 2.5" tail pipes to 3" pipes to match the rest of the exhaust. the 2.5" tail pipes are already a tight fit so how will i be able to fit 3" pipes? IF you have some pics of how you ran your 3" tail pipes please post some them for me. If they wont fit how do turndowns sound?

A weird angle, but this shows them on my 69. They run out in the stock location but they could be cut off before they go to the rear panel. I used a kit from Torque Tech.

Unless you are just trying to make your car louder I doubt you will find any gains in 3" from the muffler to the back of the car. The hot exhaust cools so much by the time it hits the muffler and that condenses the exhaust gasses to the point that back pressure isn't an issue. I have 2 1/4 over the axles and have seen 2 1/2 over it but would think you would need oval tubing to get 3" over and clear without issues...
Edit: Looks like Jody snuck in when I was typing... Also looks like he got 3" over the axle and out the back!!

Thanks for the pic and info. I dont have a problem with running the pips under the gas tank like yours so i will see what i can come up with. As far as the 2.5" pipes go you may be right about the power issue but there hitting the tires and i want to redo them anyhow so i thought i would try to get some 3" pipes it they would fit. I also need to get some bigblock motor mounts to move my 454 over some to keep the headers from hitting the streering box.
Thanks

The picture is a weird view, but the pipes don't go under the tank. They go over the rear end, 90 degree turn to the outside of the car, and then down between the leaf springs and the body.

Hey Jody Can you just buy the pipes from the muffer back? 3" stainless steel.I too or 2.5" pipe.I too have 2.5" but its in two pieces to make it fit.I have 3" to the muffer but behind the guy says he could not guaratiy it would not hit or ratteld. So he made two pipes on both sides.Would like one pretty looking pipe out the back?

The guys who made that one (Torque Tech) don't make stainless and they are also two piece (slip-fit) which can be clamped or welded. It would be very tough to get a one piece section up in there the way they have to bend; much easier to put it up in sections. Plus you get some adjustability that way for fit.
These guys have a similar system in stainless. I'd imagine they can sell just the tailpipes.
