: Need Help Picking a Cam...
james7773 Dec 11th, 04, 10:48 AM Im pulling the 327 out of my 67 this winter, (To clean up the enging bay, change oil pan gasket, etc) and Im going to change the cam whil I got it out. My question is..IM CLUELESS ON SELECTING A CAM! Its a 327, with and Eldelbrock Preformer intake, Eldelbrok 600 carb, and SR Torker 2.02 heads.. All Im looking for is a good Lop sound to the engine. Im not going to be racing it or anything. Also, while Im at it, would it be a good idea to change the rockers to rollers? thanks,
James
nick V Dec 11th, 04, 07:01 PM Hey James - anything with a 268-278 advertised degrees duration on a 110-112 lope separation with .450-490 lift will work great - and will work with your combo - Beyound 280 dgrees duration will lope more, but will require more converter - i.e 2200 stall....

pdq67 Dec 11th, 04, 07:39 PM A good old CC 268HE or a Crane/Cam Dynamics 272/272 Energizer, ("Little-Fireball"), cam will do nicely, imho!!
In other words, no more then onna these cams, an old, 1850, 600Ccfm Holley on a high-rise like a 300-36 and a set of cheap, 1.625", four tube, long headers AND she will run like a "scalded-dog" if your CR. is up around 10 to 1!!!

pdq67 Dec 11th, 04, 07:45 PM I'm sorry, you want lope and stuff so go with a good old stock, 30-30 solid AND I will guarantee it will lope enough for you, but not run worth a hoot until she is "up on the pipe" as the two stroke guys say!! And then not all that good unless you are up at 11 to 1 CR.!!!!!!
Reading again your post tells me that all you really need is onna the cams I mentioned with the same 1.625" headers.....

Nantooch Dec 11th, 04, 08:45 PM Roller rockers will help with hp. Look at Comp Cams website and find a kit that contains the cam, lifters and springs. Use the info already provided above and go from there. Once you find something that sounds good. Look up the parts at Jegs or Summit and order them. Depending on what you go with though, that little 600cfm may be short of what your needs will be.
boodlefoof Dec 12th, 04, 04:17 AM I seem to recall a few discussions awhile back of a Crane 274 ground with a 106 LSA. Lots of people said they were really happy with it... gave a good lope, but had a good low-midrange powerband. Might be worth a look.

Should work well in your car.
james7773 Dec 13th, 04, 08:16 AM thanks a million guys...i think im going with Nicks suggestion but with a higher duration.I think im going to put in a 2500 stall converter. Again, thanks for the input.
james7773 Dec 13th, 04, 08:25 AM What about this...its a CompCam
12-246-3: HYDRAULIC: Very strong mid-range, torque and throttle response, 2200+ stall. Duration at .050: 230
Intake Valve Lift: 0.49
Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.49
Lobe Seperation: 110°
james7773 Dec 13th, 04, 08:35 AM On the less expensive side...does anyone have an opinion of this set up?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33614&item=7941142818&rd=1 Don't expect any lope to the idle. 204/218 on a 112 LSA is REAL mild.
pdq67 Dec 13th, 04, 12:54 PM The ebay cam and kit is the GOOD old "Performer" cam that is one step up from the stock, GREAT, (IMHO), old, -929 cam!! (195/202, 112/108, .390"/.410" hy- cam)...
I forgot about the Crane, 274H06 and it should lope quite well for you. AND run good too!!
I'm sorry, but I'm not an Extreme Cam guy b/c I don't like the longevity issues of them due to their higher lifts and such, but, hey, that's only me....
