I'm sorry to be asking a non camaro question but you have helped me so much as I have been working on my 68 camaro, this is the only place I know to really get an answer. I have a 95 Impala that I am looking at putting an after market exhaust systen in. The area I live in does not require emission checks so am I o.k to take the cat. converters off or do I need "them as one fellow mentioned" for back pressure? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Dean

Even though they may not be required for emissions control in your area, you at least want to replace them with high flow versions. The back pressure is essential. The ECM will adjust to the reduction in back pressure from the use of high flow cats but it may not be able to stay within performance perameters for street driving without them. I installed SLP coated headers and a complete SLP exhaust with high flow cat of the 93Z. The performance increase was very noticable and the car is still emissions legal. The choice is up to you.
