Right now I'm stuck with the original 8.2 10 bolt rear-end(2.73) out of a base 327 2 barrel car. I'm stuck between putting a posi rear with about a 3.55 gearing or a nice converter with about a 3000 rpm stall. I do about half highway and about half street cruising so I can't go with too high of a stall. I have a 350 with a comp cam XE268, performer rpm intake, street avenger 770, headers and glasspacks with no tailpipe. This is all into a TH350 and if I go with the converter I'll be putting in a shift kit, tranny cooler, and maybe a shifter.
Which do you think will help me gain more E.T.? Thanks alot,
Donnie

Hands down the gear change will be much better. When you feel the difference, you'll get a nice fat grin on your face, I did.

Okay, thanks alot. That's what I thought but for awhile I was debating because the guys on LS1.com think that a converter is a WAY bigger gain but I'm still goin' with the gears.
Thanks again,
Donnie

They go hand in hand, but I would go for the gears first. Too much stall with numerically low gears equals a lot of slippage and poor performance.

If you put a high stall converter in a car that doesnt have posi, you will most likely end up with a traction problem. A posi with 3.55 gears will let you leave the line reasonably well, even if the stall speed is a little lower than optimum.

Okay thanks alot guys. But, eventually I'm going to be getting a converter too. Could you recommend a good stall and a good brand to go with? Like I said this car is driven on the highway and I don't want to go higher than 3000 rpm.
Thanks alot,
Donnie

ATI for the converter. there was a recent post in the performance section that included there phone number, i dont know it.
i've heard they make very nice converters and offer some very good assistance.
