My friend has this 355, with a new accel Hei dist. First we tried doing the total timing with the stock weights and springs, the timing wouldn't advance until about 3000 rpm and when it would it would totally advance really quick, then when you brought the idle back down it would be advanced from 12 to 18! So we tried getting the moroso curve kit, put the new weights, springs, and center piece on. Now it doesn't advance at all. Checked everything a million times, then put the centerpiece backwards for counterclockwise no affect still no advance, the rotor does pop foward and back like it should but still no advance, then tried original weights with new centerpiece and springs, it went back to advancing way high and advancing initial, No idea where to turn my MSD had no problems like this! Pretty sure everything is setup right ANymore ideas?? thanks

Sounds like you have to heavy of springs in the distributor. How old is this dist.? Are the weights free? Did you use a little lube on them so the don't stick? I would say try the heavier of the weights you have ant play with tha springs (you can mis and match them to get the advance you want) does this dist. have vacuum as well? I don't see a problem with it being in at 3000 except you don't want it to just come in all at once like that.

Try super light springs like said. I think I got good springs from cranes vacuum advance can-kit.

Or you could call Accel. You might also see what it would cost to take it to someone that can recurve it the way you want.

I have mine set-up to be all in at 3000rpm.
Good luck

Just because it is a new distributor doesn't mean there isn't a problem with the vacuum canister. Either replace it or have it tested . My Accel distributor wasn't very old when the vacuum canister wouldn't hold vacuum. Maybe yours is sticking inside. Just a thought.
