I just bought a 73 camaro rs. The car was converted to hei distributor. The wire going to the power side is coming from a ballast resistor. Is this right? I thought it should get full voltage. If this is wrong, where do I get 12-volts from? If i leave the ballast resistor connected what will happen? also the other terminal is the tach, The car has no tach but there is a blue wire hooked to this. What is this, can I leave this disconected? Thank you

The HEI must have a full 12 volts. The power should come from the key but can come from any battery voltage connection that can be switched on and off. If there is a removeable ballast resistor just bypass it. Not sure what the blue wire is but it may be hooked up and not connected to anything on the other end. Try disconnecting it and see.

You need 12 volts to the HEI. You may have to run a wire from the fuse box inside the car.The blue wire was probably for a tach someone removed before you got the car.

Thank you for such quick replies. The car was running hooked up to the ballast resistor. But i gave the car to somebody to pull the engine and do some work, but it turned out that person didnt know as much as he bench raced about. so now I have to get the car rewired, and the person who owned the car before me must have thought that he knows better than gm because it seems that he has changed all the wires in the engine bay and pretty much none of the colors match the haynes diagram i just bought. The blue wire is actually one one of two wires that were connected to the distributor. one coming from the ballast resistor bat+ and Tach one coming from the harness, both blue. You can know see my nightmare. I do not understand why this blue wire was hooked up to the tach terminal seeing as the car would have to have a electronic tachometer and does not. I have been looking underneath the dash for a blue wire end to see if there was a tach in the car, but cannot find one. Thank you for the help, much appreciated
