I have an 8" harmonic balancer that looks the same as my 7708 69 302 unit in thickness and diameter, but has the number 7173 stamped on it and the hub isn't flat like the 7708 but is raised about 1/16 or so inches where the pulley bolts to. Anyone have any ideas about this? Maybe 67 or 68 or over the counter dealer?

You don't want the pulley to touch the outer ring of the h/balancer. As the h/bal absorbs/cancels vibrations, its outer ring "rocks to & fro" about the hub. If the pulley touched, it would send out a high pitched squeal.

I would permanently mark the ring and hub, for future reference, and use it. Later in its life, the ring may move on the hub, and the marks would tell/show you this event.

I know nothing of the numbers.

The section where the pulley bolts to doesn't come near the outer ring. It's only a small area in the front about the same size as the back of the pulley surface that bolts to the balancer.

I found out this morning, 7173 is the number for the 67-68 302 engine.
