View Full Version : Fed up about ebay auto scams? DjD Aug 3rd, 04, 11:16 AM Check this one out... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485468092&category=6755 MAXIMUM69 Aug 3rd, 04, 11:29 AM Right on!! graemlins/hurray.gif ZZ430DropTop67RS Aug 3rd, 04, 11:58 AM Bravo! That about covers it. graemlins/beers.gif coporic Aug 3rd, 04, 12:06 PM What a great auction. I hope it saves a few people from getting ripped off. I actually met someone who sent the $2000. deposit for a 1968 Camaro SS-RS to some guy in Italy supposedly, but then could never contact him again. Imagine that. Its really hurting people who are legitmately selling there car and unfortunately nothing seems to be done about it. ************************************************** 1967 Camaro SS-RS CONV 427 owned 23 yrs 1968 Camaro SS-RS CONV 350 1969 Camaro RS Z/28 X-Ram JL-8 unrestored. 20yrs 1969 Camaro SS-RS 350 owned 20 yrs 1969 Camaro RS COPO Clone 427 1970 Chevelle SS454 CONV LS-5 1971 Monte Carlo SS454 owned 20 yrs. HwyStarJoe Aug 4th, 04, 02:43 AM "OH YEAH, they WONT be selling a $30000 car with $1000 in mods for $5500, a wheel of cheese and a bag of ink pens." "Where is the deposit going? To some guy in Madagascar? Hmm, yeah. I dont think he's got a z06 corvette in his hut." ROFL!!! So simple and so true! It baffles me how people could fall for these scams. He makes me want to do an ad like that pointed straight at the First Gen. I'm tired of emailing bidders and warning them that they're being ripped off. dyno jonn Aug 4th, 04, 03:50 PM One of the simple things Ebay could do is to eliminate the "approved bidders only" option. Then when we spotted a scam, we could bid the thing to the moon so the scammers couldn't get a bunch of down strokes from suckers. I always pay a local appraiser to verify a car before I send any money. Lots better to be out a few hundred than several grand! garfield Aug 10th, 04, 10:17 PM That guy must've gotten screwed real bad on eBay before :( 69CamaroRacer Aug 12th, 04, 12:19 PM I have a good friend that got screwed out of $12000 like that. HE won an auction for a harley davidson fat boy and then he sent his deposit to an "escrow" compay and waited for the bike to be shipped form europe. Guess what no ship and no bike! It really sucks because he has always dreamed of owning a fat boy and he took his money from serving in the Desert of Iraq and sent it off only to have it stolen. This happened 4 years ago and to the best of my knowlege he never got any money back Z10Joey Aug 12th, 04, 01:58 PM Great ad, unfortunately there are a lot of people out there still willing to give social security #'s and credit card #'s to any dumb a$$ telemarketers calling their house. These are the same people that are taken by scams. It's simple, if you are making a large purchase take the time to check it out. Go see the product, call the person, verify the address, allow a LEGIT escrow company to hold the funds, forget the international crap. From what I read on this site, It's hard for me to believe that people are still falling for this crap. If any one of us saw a 69 Yenko Camaro for "buy it now" $8000., would anyone really take a second look? RS3SDL2MG Aug 17th, 04, 06:01 AM you know being flat broke has it's advantages !! Hylton Aug 18th, 04, 07:47 AM When I see these ads, I ask the seller to send me a picture of the cars Title - works everytime! MrDanB Aug 21st, 04, 03:16 PM IMHO, The ONLY reason Ebay won't try to be proactive with pointing out scammers is the old "We're a huge company and don't want to rock the boat...If we keep silent, maybe everything will work out in the end" syndrome. I have wanted to make larger purchases on ebay, but simply won't send $$ in the mail to get junk (or nothing) in return. I have only gotten a raw deal a time or 2, but once is too many for anyone. My longtime rule of thumb for ebaying: Don't EVER bid on more than you care to lose ;) Dano graemlins/beers.gif Gary L Aug 24th, 04, 05:13 PM Here we go again! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6161&item=2488011542&rd=1 twobytwo Aug 26th, 04, 03:41 PM Yet another one. This is a one day auction for a 1969 pacecar. "Preappoved buyers only".http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2488211402&category=6161 Trancebot Sep 12th, 04, 09:40 AM only a matter of time before someone sues ebay for a ****load of cash.. it would be a crazy hard battle but ebay would lose. they are in reality selling everything they have on thier site, they need to make everything legit, they should be required to screen any and all sales over a certian amount. If i lost cash from ebay i would call the best lawyer i could afforde and take ebay to town. Ebay is the only place i know of that you can steal from people with no viable retrebution. |
