How does the LSA of a camshaft affect performance?? I have noticed that some cams run as low as a 106* LSA and others run as high as 114* LSA. why?

Tight LSA's (less than 110) produce good midrange power, although it can be more 'peaky'. Wider LSA's can have a broad powerband, and is also good for nitrous and blower motors. I have pretty much decided on a Comp Cams grind which is on 108 LSA. I'm not sure if I will like it, but it will be a learning experience, I think I will though. Tight LSA's are a neat way to get a rough idle, but still have great torque unlike long duration cams. Toby Keen Jul 7th, 03, 12:35 AM In VERY GENERAL terms, a tight LSA will have more bottom end and a wider LSA will have more top end with everything else being the same. Tighter LSA's are better for smaller motors and wider LSA's for bigger motors. Once again, there are very general terms and each set-up will react differently. |
