I have a 67 RS with a 327 4 speed. How do I identify if the tranny is a Muncie or a Saginaw??

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but...
- Muncie can be identified by one of the three shift rods(reverse) connected to the extension housing.
- While a Saginaw only uses only two shift rods with both connecting to the side cover. - Also I believe all Saginaw used a cast iron case while Muncie's were alum.

Hope this helps,

I may be wrong also, but I thought the shift patterns were different, Muncie had reverse to the upper left, Saginaw to the lower right?

Muncie is aluminum case, Saginaw is cast iron. If you can shift it fast, it's a Muncie. If it balks and grinds the syncros when shifted fast, it's a Saginaw.
The Saginaw has three arms like the Muncie, however they are all on the side cover if memory serves me, the Muncie has the reverse arm on the tail housing.
