you can paint over it, but in my experience once it has cured painting over it will never be that great. I've tried painting over it in several ways.

The best is to paint it while it is still just a hair tacky. This leaves a great durable paint finish. Don't know if it is the best for the POR-15's rust-preventive properties though...

Second, you can try scuffing up the POR and then painting over it. I haven't had much luck getting it to stick well.

Third, you can buy some of POR's "TieCoat Primer." This primer sticks pretty well to the POR and then you can paint over it just fine. Only problem is, it is really easy to scratch and chip... then again fixing a scratch is as easy as putting down a little dab of extra primer and repainting that spot.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... The only way to top coat the POR engine paint is with either more POR paint or POR Tie Coat Primer (http://www.por15.com/product.asp?productid=239). I have used the POR on engines and it looks great BUT it takes at least 2 good coats of paint. Once it is on the block, it's not going to come off.

I hope it helps.

I will agree with Steve (Canuck). Tie coat is the ONLY way to paint over por, also, it doesn't like direct sunlight and will fade to a grayish color with time... The paint that you paint to match a factory cast metal look is super! I painted my old exhaust manifolds 2 years ago and they STILL look like they just came out of the box! :D

Good Luck! Dano graemlins/beers.gif
