Hello,
I need some advice in removing the fill plug in my 12 bolt rear. It's got the square head plug ( one side is slightly rounded ). My wrench fits on nice and snug but just slips around and off when pressure is applied. I also tried smacking it (the wrench) with a hammer. Still no good. Any ideas ?
Thanks

You can try a tapping a socket around it.Find one thats fits snug,an impact socket works best. That should remove it.Last resort is to weld a socket to it.If theres a better way I would like to know too.Good Luck..

You can weld a nut to the plug. The heat from welding will help loosen the plug and the nut will give you something to get a wrench on.

i have an impact screwdriver that has an impact ratchet inside. i put the driver on the plug and hit it with a hammer and it loosens little by little with every hit.

Thanks to all who replied. I did not have an 8 point socket, so I used a 12 point, 16mm. I tapped it onto the plug with a small hammer, gave a few grunts, and it turned out. I was able to remove the plug from the socket with a small punch. Both socket and plug are just fine, and the rear has oil inside once again.
