graemlins/sad.gif today i fired up my engine for the first time but i ran into a problem. for some reason my oil pressure shoots up to 120 pounds after i start it. i had prepped the engine by turning the pump and got oil into the rockers before i even started it but the pressure remains too high. its so high that i busted the seal off of 2 oil filters. has anyone heard of anything like this happening? i'm going to call the shop tommorow but i thought i'd ask here first.

Did you do anything to the oil pump? Braze or weld the pickup while the pressure valve was still inside? Too many shims in the pressure spring maybe?

I had a oil pump releif valve stick before on the engine stand, I new it when I primed the engine there was to much pressure, Sure enough got the pan and the pump off and the valve was stuck, I always tell people to prime there engines on the engine stand as its easier to pull the pan off on the stand then have to pull the engine out of a car, You may want to check your distibutor gear and cam gear as there may be premature wear due to the high oil pressure.
