How much does it cost for an engine cleaning like i think there dipped in something and cleaned out. Also ive been fighting this for a few months wether to buy a new gm crate or rebuild the engine i have which is not the original. The engine i has needs new rocker tips and the cylinders are looking real worn its got at least 150k on it and how much reliability do you have when you rebuild your own everyday driver engine. I mean gm gives out a 3 year warrenty which would last til im in college which is all i need. I know i would learn alot with my own rebuild but i think the cleaning new cylinders and rocker tips and bearing, also probley needs to be re bored. And as you can tell i dont knwo to much about it i have all the books so im preped but i think its the money.
WHat is your opinion?
Tim
Thanks

When I did my engine about 6 or so years ago, I had the machine shop bore it ($10 a hole) clean it($30 and not a SPECK of anything left) and install the cam bearings(I think 10.00) I also had them put all my rods on my new stock pistons, I forget how much, which I got a set of 8 for about 90.00. I had the machine shop supply a crank KIT, includes all the bearings. They had the best price, but I don't want to do that again, I don't know what brand it is. Must be OK, the engine has about 95,000 on it and not one problem. I did the heads myself at work, so I don't know how much that is. Rebuilding is easy and great to learn. The only special tool I didn't have is a piston ring tool that cost about 5.00. I was in a hurry to drive mine to the Super Chevy show in fla. the next day, so I built it in my kitchen in 8 hours. Test drove it from Tampa to olraldo that night! Anyway, the cheaper parts seem to be doing ok for me, I just wish I had the money at the time to build more power!

OK so were talking 80 for boring the cylinder shafts but what size and how do i find out all the demensions. Ive called a few shops before and being 15 they never take me seriously and not exactly knowing what i want makes it worse. So i would want the cylinders bored and new pistons too how much would they run as well as the heads worked on. What am i looking to ask the shop when i call for pricing
