Try Federal Mogul, I think they sell the old GM HP grinds. There isn't anything special about the lifters realy.

You might also try the Crane Cams website. I don't know about the little Duntov, but they make several reproduction GM factory cams.

I bet it is in Crane's, "Elgin/Wolverine Blue Racer" line of cams if they will still sell you one!

It's a dandy little cam, Imho!!!

If you can't find one, then contact UDHarold at Ultradyne and ask about one of his little solids that pdq67 has been asking about.

He said that he was going to put one at the top of his SB solid cam page on his web site just for guy's that want a small street solid!!

pdq,
Do you have any info on the on the cams you've talked to Harold about? I'm still trying to decide on a cam for my .040" over 327 I'm looking to build this spring. I've seen a little of your discussions about the smaller cams and got me interested...

The motor will be about 9.6 comp, some decent flowing heads (not quite sure which ones yet tho!), dual-plane Stealth mani, headers, etc and will be mostly street driven. I have manual brakes and want a lopey idle, but still be able to drive it about everyday on the street.

PS. I don't want it to be slow in my Nova!

Thanks,
Bill C.

BC,

Here is Harold site for SB solid cams.
http://www.ultradyne.com/ch_flat_tappet.htm

The 225 and 232 cams are dandy's as is the 238 cam but it is slightly big for a true street cam... More like a hi-po CC 282S...

Thanks pdq...

Those cams look fairly mild... what do you think I would need motor wise in order to use something like the 248 or 255 cams?

Thanks,
Bill C.

An intake system , headers and HIGHER COMPRESSION!!! pdq67

PS., BTW, that's why I go the street engine compression ratio's and cam's and such!!!

pgq,
the motor will have a Stealth dual-plane mani, Holley 600 carb, small-body hei, headers, and I'm shooting for compression to be around 9.6. Does that sound doable?

Thanks,
Bill C.

John,

That's what my Buddy, Nut's paid for the old -151 cam back in about April, '67 that he stuck in my car for just the GRIN on my face when she started off!!!

I bought the "barley-pop" after he finished, He, He!!! pdq67

BC,

Sorry, I over read you... I picked up on your post just now..

Should be fine.. I would go with either the 225 or 232 solid. Both should run fine.

In fact, I bet the 225 will run a whole lot like a CC 268HE or the Crane "Little Fireball" cams and yet make more low and midrange rpm torque!! It may not top end like the 232, but it should scoot a little better down low, JMHO.... pdq67

pdq,
thanks for the input, but I'm running the CC268 in my 355 SBC in the car right now and think it's a bit "tame" if you know what I mean. I would like to get a little better performace out of the 327 than I am with the CC268. Many of the top end parts like heads, manifold, carb, headers and such will be coming from the 355, so hopefully that's doable!?

I see in your last post that you said 225 or 232 cams... but looking at the UD website, they talk about 248 and 255 cams being "excellent" in a street car that's driven daily. That sounds like my car... driven almost daily, but I want performace also! Do yuo really think that the 248 cams are too big for the street? What would I be losing by using the 248 over the 232 for example? Looks like it would perform way better...

Thanks again,
Bill C.

Bill,

You really need to look at the intake closing point along with Pat Kelley's great Dynamic Compression Ratio Caculator site b/c I do know that most standard cams, and this is a big generalization here, over 270 advertised duration like above 10 to 1 CR. and generally more like 11 to 1CR.

Of course when you throw in short advertised duration cams with big .050" numbers the valve train and cam life go down, that is why GM conservatively rated their old SB hi-po cams!!

My 406 has a Melling 280/230 .480" RV cam in it and with my M-20, 3.31's and about 26.5" tall tires was a bear to cruise with idling around town, so please use your own experiences with respect to what you want to tolerate in a street car...

Above say 25 to 2700rpm, it ran like Jack, the Bear!!! pdq67
