Can this be done with the engine in the car or is it best to pull the engine. If done in the car can all the bolts be gotten to with a torque wrench? See sig for configuration.

Yes you can do it in the car. It's not much fun and your back can get sore but you can do it.

But it is on a BB car b/c the cast-iron heads weigh so darned much!!!

Just let your manifolds or headers slide down outta the way and you will be fine..

It's a fairly easy job in the car. I like to have the front up on ramps first. This helps allow you to work upright and saves you back some wear and tear. It also allows the coolant to run out of the block so that only the very aft coolant holes on the deck have coolant up to the deck surface and a little bulb syringe will take care of that. It's a little less mess.

One of the best ways to do this is move your car away a distance, drain her of all the antifreeze and catch as much as you can. Remove the two block plugs down by both motor mounts to drain the block correctly, imho...

Then move her where it is dry and smooth so you aren't rooting around in antifreze everytime you drop a bolt or nut! Plus, your feet won't be as apt to slip out from under you lifting the stuff off your motor by hand..

And a big piece of cardboard makes a dandy, clean surface to work off of too...
