i have an 84 camaro with 350 turbo tranny with a shift kit. I'm adding at least a quart of tranny fluid a week. it shifts at different RPM's all the time. sometimes it'll really rip into gear when it shifts but sometiems I can bearly feel it. SOmetimes i'll wind way out before it shifts and it sounds like something is knocking around inside the tranny. Do i have a serious problem or what's going on.

Is it leaking a quart a week?If not,I would say your vaccum modulator is bad, this can also cause the erratic shifting you describe.

where is the vaccume modulator? Will this make it shift hard sometimes and then shift like I don't even know it shifts?

The modulator is the little "canister" that the vacuum line attaches to on your transmission. This is one of the things that controls your shifting,so if it is bad it is possible to get varying shifts. They can also have a internal leak that can cause trans fluid to be drawn up the vacuum line and into the engine, which might be the cause for your disappearing fluid. If you have a vaccum pump/tester see if the modulator holds vaccum or leaks down. You might try pulling the vaccum line off at the engine and see if there is a noticeable trace of trans fluid.

my trans fluid is laying all over in my drive way. It seems to be comming out of one of the lines. But I checked them and tightened them the best I could but it still leaks. Where is this canister at that holds the vaccume? With it leaking will that cause the pressure to be lower, therefor causing it not to shift properly?

TOnight when I was driving my Camaro i would try to manually shift it, but i'll go into gear when it wants to, it wouldn't shift when I shifted it. ANd sometimes it would downshift by itself when I'm slowing down. Other times it wont' kick down till I came ot a complete stop. ???????? confused

question....did you install the shift kit?....if so did you use the factory oil pressure spring or buy another one for the kit.....that will cause to much pressure and oil leaks and very erratic shifts....might wanna try another modulator valve also!! <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by CamArrow:

THe shift kit was already installed before I bought the car. I couldn't tell you if they used the same spring or not. Where is the Vacume Modualar at??

On a TH350 it is almost at the very back of the transmission, next to the tailshaft. If you follow the vacuum line down from the engine it is attached to the modulator. If you don't have a vacuum line running down to your trans. this may be your whole shifting problem.

Where does the line connect to comming off the tranny? Does it connect to the Carborator? I'm not good with V8s yet, I know Chevette's pretty good http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif but the Camaro is much faster

It should run up to the intake manifold. You might want to buy a Chiltons or Haynes repair manual,it would probably help you out alot.I still use these all the time and I've been wrenching for 20 years.

I was under my Camaro just 2 days ago, and I thought Hey, maybe I'll see if the Tranny bolts on the pan are tight. I could turn them with out any effort. So I tightend all the bolts up, besides the one under the crossmember. (didnt' have much time) Also I have tranny fluid dripping out of where the speedometer screws into the Tranny. I couldn't find a vacume line comming from the tranny.
