Hey guys got a couple of questions. Are the 168 tooth manual flywheels on V-8 chevys all the same with the exception of the 400 and 454? I know these two are externally balanced but for some reason I thought the others were the same between big and small block. I got one donated to me to run on a 427 and they said it came out of a 350 truck. I was wondering if it will work on my application. Unfortunately the bellhousing I got is for the smaller flywheel. Anyone know of a good source for bellhousings or would it be cheaper to go with the smaller flywheel? Are there any clearance issues on a 69 Camaro when trying to run the big flywheel? Thanks in advance for any help.

If we're talking about first gens, there were only two, neutrally balanced V-8 Chevy flywheels...the 12.5 and the 14.

Yes, you'll need the larger bellhousing for the larger flywheel. I can't remember the cast # but the third to last number is a 6. The smaller bellhousing is a XXXX403. You'll also need a starter made for the 14 inch (168 tooth) flywheel. It has offset mounting bolts.

Chevy used the larger flywheel and clutch (11 inch clutch disk) on the 300+ hp engines. I'd recommend the larger set up for your 427.

Good luck!

Larger bellhousing is the "621". There is one on Ebay for $5 right now. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
