I have an original CTB block for a 1970 Z28 with 186 heads that match. It has a cast crank and I'm not sure if the rods are orig. It has TRW flattop pistons in it now. I also have the correct 2110 intake that matches. The engine has been bored 30 over and has maybe 3500 miles on it. How much do you guys think this is worth. There is a faint VIN down by the oil filter. I am thinking of selling but not sure where to start on price.

shouldnt have a cast crank if it is a true Lt1. Also should have a domed piston. If you are gonna sell, I would sell the block heads and intake together and forget about you non matching parts. The numbers dont really mean anything unless you find the car that should have that motor. You never know what it is worth, its what people will believe and how bad they want it. I wouldnt pay over 150 bucks for a good 350 complete. This one is probally worth more to a collector or a strong buyer. 500 bucks sounds right if it is clear of cracks and everything is in nice rebuildable condition ( you baking and fluxing and cam/freeze plugs)

I knew the crank, cam and pistons were not orig as I had this engine built. It is a real LT1, with the code CTB and is not a restamp. The VIN by the filter is 10N550XXX. Who knows if the original car exists or not. Like a dummy I traded the orig carb for a set of valve covers back in 1983. graemlins/clonk.gif Maybe I'll just sell the intake, heads and block separate. The only problem would be shipping the block.

4 bolt block + "186" big valve heads + correct Z/28 intake = $750 minimum IMHO. The rest is free.
It would be worth $100 more if it had the windage tray/studs/pan.
I like those kind of parts! smile.gif

Thanks Mark, thats a starting point. I know I can sell and ship the intake fairly easily, same with the heads. The block could be strapped to a crate and sent out freight I guess. I will probably part this out. Would be nice to find someone with a May-June 1970 built Camaro or Yenko Duece Nova.

I have heard that GM had problems with some of the 1182 steel cranks back in '70 and '71. I lot of the steel cranks were replaced with 2442 cast cranks at the dealers when problems came up.... I don't know why, it's just something I heard. I opened up my original '71 LT1 and it had a cast crank in it also. The forged pistons, Pink rods, 487 heads, CGP block, 9594 intake, 2049 distributer were all original stuff too... Very wierd
I agree with Mark on starting price.... But, I've always have better luck "making" more money parting something then selling it complete.
