View Full Version : Weight of cast Iron BBC Head???? Matt R Jul 7th, 03, 06:26 AM Anybody know the weight of a BBc Cast Iron GM head?? i need it to try and figure out shipping costs. Thanks Matt BillK Jul 7th, 03, 08:27 AM Matt, They are about 75 lbs bare. I would add at least another 10lbs if they are complete heads. Matt R Jul 7th, 03, 10:28 AM BillK, is that 75 pounds each bare??? Or is that for both heads? I knew they were heavy. Thanks< Matt bilydean Jul 7th, 03, 10:34 AM Each. I shipped bare 396 heads thru UPS. They were right at 70 lbs/box. Dean BillK Jul 7th, 03, 02:46 PM Matt, That is for each head. When UPS used to have a 75 lb maximum, an assembled head would not make it. cavemanmoron Jul 7th, 03, 04:08 PM save your back, and ship them Each! pdq67 Jul 7th, 03, 04:43 PM This is what I do look at AND it works for me!! Since I have a 50mpg corn-popper, I look at whether the freight costs saved vs the gas cost driving over to get something is less then the sales taxes they charge if I buy it over the counter!! And I don't count my time b/c THIS IS A HOBBY ISN'T IT!!!!! And I just either use my vacation or FLEX time. Plus driving is an "enjoyment" to me... pdq67 PS., and don't drop one a them heavy suckers on your foot or you may never walk right again!!!! Matt R Jul 8th, 03, 11:23 AM Thanks for all the information. I am selling a fresh set of 781 casting BBC heads with new 2.19/1.88 valves. The potential buyer was interested in shipping costs and i had no idea of the weight of each head. Matt |
