HI, I WAS DRIVING MY 4 SPEED 67' CAMARO AND WAS SLOWING DOWN AND WENT TO DOWNSHIFT FROM 3RD TO 2ND AND THE CAR DID NOT GO INTO 2ND. THE NEXT THING I KNEW THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR. THE SHIFTER NOW ONLY MOVES A LITTLE BIT AND NOT IN THE CORRECT SHIFT PATTERN. LUCKILY THE CAR IS STUCK IN 3RD GEAR SO I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. THE CAR SEEMS TO BE UNABLE TO GET OUT 3RD GEAR. I WAS WONDERING IF I HAVE A LINKEAGE PROBLEM, OR SOMETHING WORSE INTERNALY IN THE TRANSMISSION. IF ANYONE COULD PLEASE HELP ME WITH ANY ADVICE ON MY PROBLEM I WOULD REALLY APRECIATE IT.
THANKS,
VINNY

Should be a shifter problem. Make sure something hasn't come loose.

Vinny,
First, please release your caps lock when you post here as it is considered SHOUTING!
Sounds to me like your linkage has simply hung up. Try this, crawl under the car, after safely supporting it of course, and wiggle the linkage rods to see if you can get it to release. If that does not work, post back here what you find when you attempted this method and someone here should be able to guide you as to what to do next..

My 4 speed did almost this exact same thing but mine was stuck in second. I simply had to crawl under the car and manually put the transmission in neutral. In my case, the front lever was the one that was jambed and I had to persuade it to move.
You may need to adjust the linkage. Just do a search and you will find a how to.
I checked my linkage and it was fine. My tranny still tries to do this on occasion when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I simply pull it back into 2nd when I feel the bind and then try again.
One of the items on my winter "to do" list is to pull the tranny and rebuild it.

Usually the trans shifter gets stuck because one of the gears is still engaged and the shifter gets stuck in no mans land. Do as Donald suggests and crawl under the car. Try moving one of the two shifter levers to get the trans into neutral. Sometimes this happens because the shifter isn't properly adjusted, but most likely it's because the sliders are warn.

I have the EXACT problem , unless mine it did shift into 2° but then was stuck into second.
go and see : http://www.camaros.net/forum/Forum9/HTML/008917.html
I will buy pit pak bushings and tune correctly the shifter. then we'll see ....

Oh yes , it happens 5 times to me, now i am used to crawl under the car... what you have to do is take a hammer or a big rod and slam into the shifter to unlock one of the 2 rods -> so you find the neutral point again and that is it.
