This one makes no sense to me at all. I am installing a new smallblock in my car. It still has the power glide in it. This trans has never leaked a single drop or fluid. The motor has been the car sense Sun afternoon and has not leaked. Last night I made new trans lines that go to the radiator. I finished late last night and never thought again about it. When I got home from work today I had about 1/2 pint of fluid on the garage floor! After wiping the mess up I began to look for the leak. I deffenitly is not comming from the new lines. It is comming from the aera of the dipstick. I wipe it clean and watch. After about 20 seconds I see it creep out just in front of the dipstick. If it is comming from the dipstick why would it start now? Is there anything around that area that could be causing this leak? I am really stumped. Thanks for your help.

maybe filter clogged?
Has the pan been dented?
Could be overfilled?
When filling or checking fluid level,
make sure it's to operating temp?
Not trying to be insulting, just looking for
basics.

It sounds like you have a dip stick tube "O" ring leaking. could have been caused from flexing the dipstick tube while working in the area building the new lines and/or from age. All it will take is to remove the bolt from the bell housing that holds the tube tight, pull it up and out, (you will loose some fluid from the dip stick tube hole) replace the "O" ring and put it back in. I would recommend lubricating the "O" ring before installing it.

I agree. I had the same problem after I installed a small block. I just happend to move the dipstick a bit too much, and took the o-ring off of the grove.
Buy yourself a new dipstick o-ring (drain fluid first) and lightly coat the o-ring with clean tranny fluid. Easy fix.

I thought maybe it was the o ring because I has the tube out, but It did not leak for about 4 days. Maybe I loosened it up when installing the news lines and did not realize it. I'll try the new o ring tomorrow if I can find one. Thanks!

Problem solved! Thanks guys. I also found out why it leaked 4 days later. When I made up the new trans lines I must have popped the tube out of the notch the o ring fits into. I bought a new o ring and lubed it with trans fluid like you suggested and refilled it with fluid and not any sign of a leak!!!! Thanks again.
