My fuel pump went out on my 91 rs. I removed everything in the way of the tank. My only problem now is the tube where you pump the gas into the tank (sorry forgot the name of the tube) is connected to the tank and there isn't much room to get the tank out with this tube stuck to the side of it.. Anyone have any trick for this?

Yeah, bend the filler neck, that's the only way.

It's designed for that, the tubing is rolled where it curves, it bends and won't break.

(And of course the plastic "pocket" the fuel door/filler neck fits into must be removed.)

SO bend it when i take it out and bend it back? I alread got the plastic out... just was afraid to release the tank until i knew how to get past the fill neck..
Thanks

Yeah, bend it to get it out, and then after the tank goes back in, bend it back to fit the pocket again.

You shouldn't have to bend the filler neck. By rolling the tank forward and down the neck will clear.

Once out check the solder connection where the filler neck meets the tank. Common for them to leak. A radiator shop can resolder it. There is actually a GM recall on them too.

I tried to roll it forward but there is no room. Do I need to drop the axle?

Yes, axle needs to be dropped down, but not removed. Remove pass side rear tire/wheel, unbolt exhaust at cat-con, move exhaust over to the right. can also pull the whole exhaust out the back.

Unbolt pan-hard bar, pan-hard bar brace, sway-bar from frame, lower shock bolts. Then lower rear down, be careful of rubber brake line between frame & rear.

Should now be able to rotate tank out and down. Been a while since I did this, so it may not be exact.

I got the exhaust out already. What is the pan-hard bar? I will disconnect the sway and the shock. DO i only need to disconnect the right side? What about the left? Should I put a stand under the axle for it has support under it after it is lowered.

Thanks,

Pan-hard bar is the piece that goes across the car, from the rear on one side to the frame on the other side. Locates the rear side-to-side.

The pan-hard brace is right above the bar.

I did both shocks and lowered the rear. No more then the length of the rubber brake line (on drivers side) between frame and rear. Can also disconnect brake line but then you'll need to bleed the brakes.

If not much gas in tank can also remove the gas cap to help in getting the filler neck down & out.
