I have a 84 Z28 and have put together a 283 engine with 327 camel heads 202/160, RPM Intake, Avenger 670 Carb, HEI distributor. Question is will there be a problem if I remove all that extra wiring that was used from the stock 305 w/computer carb and ignition. I want to get rid of all the Excess wiring if they will not serve a purpose. Please let me know if I need anything other than the basic wire setup. Starter, Alt, HEI and so on

Step 1: Put the engine in with the harness the way it is now, and get it running. Once it's running, and you are certain that EVERYTHING is functional, cut all the wires that aren't plugged into anything.
Step 2: Take out the check engine bulb.
This worked for me.

A bigger concern that I have is the 2.02/1.60 valve heads he intends to run on that 283 block!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that you could not use the 2.02 heads on a small bore motor! Something about contact with the valve edge and the cylinder bore.. Please check this before you attempt to fire that motor. I would hate for you to destroy lots of good parts for such a simple mistake

Nahhh, they shouldn't hit the cylinder walls, a .030 over 283 has a 3.905" bore anyway. I ran 2.02 heads on a 305 once and they didn't hit. Very bad move from a performance standpoint - but they didn't hit.

Eric68, are you saying that the performance of my engine will not be as good by using 202/160 camel heads on the 283 bored 80 over. I just looking to get about 300-350hp that will be good enough for me.
