MY uncle has a 68 rs and is almost done. He's having a bad problem with his wiring. It's hard to explain but here we go...when the car is running he has 18 volts at the battery. Everything is new, everything, from Classic Industries. The amps gauge goes off the scale with 60+ amps. Unplug the batter the car dies. When the car is running with the headlights on, turn off the ignition the car keeps running untill the headlights are turned off. Windshield wiper motor gets hot and so does the headlight switch. Then the fuel gauge is always peg full no matter what. When the ignition is turned off with the headlight on with car not running the fuel gauge goes down, then when lights are turned off the gauge stop, then on with the lights on again the gauge moves down more, and so on. HELP he says. He wants someone to come over to fix it for 20$$$$. It also fried the starter soliniod. Any idea what is up?

P.S. remember everthing is new and double checked for proper connection. HE also says that the new wiring is plugged into the correct places and he suspects faulty wiring.

Change voltage regulator.

Charging voltage across battery should be no higher than 14 volts, 13.8 is good.

about the fuel gauge, make sure the sending unit ground wire is connected to a good, bare metal source.

What about your ignition switch. Mine was missing the connector and had only the wires plugged into the terminals and it was obviously wired wrong. Check out this link for the proper wiring on a 68 ignition...

Hope this helps!
