I have a 69 Camaro that when you turn of the ignition switch, it does not stay in the off slot and wants to creep back towards the on position. I had changed the switch four or five years ago. Also the engine remains running when it creeps back. It is not shutting off the fire.
I have pulled out the switch and it operate with ease. Is my problem in the ignition switch or in the switch at the bottom of the steering column.
I thought someone may have had this problem before. Appreciate any suggestions.

I meant to say when you turn "off" the ignition switch, It does not stay in the "lock" position. etc... I have to hold it in the lock position to kill the engine..

Sounds like your lock cylinder is bad, switch is fine

If you have to over-travel the cylinder back to the Lock detent to kill the engine, the only adjustment in the system is at the ignition switch on top of the column which is driven by the rod from the rack at the end of the ignition cylinder. The cylinder isn't adjustable, neither is the rack or the rod - but the switch is; the correct adjustment when installing a new switch is shown in the Chassis Service Manual. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the info:
It feels like an adjustment is needed.
Where do you go to get to the chassis service manual?

All the resto parts houses have them - you want the "1969 Chassis Service Manual". graemlins/thumbsup.gif
