From my experience I installed mine on the brown wire to the alternator to prevent run-on when I turned the ignition off. This diode came with my MDS 6AL package, I believe it is 1A-100V.

It's part of the RS headlight wiring, it is in the wiring used to supply 12V to the coils of RS headlight relays R2 and R3 when the car is started (which keep the headlight doors closed). It's there to allow the car to stop running if you were to turn the key off with the lights on. If it wasn't there you can back feed 12V thru the coils of these relays to the ignition switch when the lights are on preventing the engine from stopping.

If the diode is bad you can get one from Radio Shack online. Cat# 900-2880 will work fine. Remember to put it in the right way. A rectifier diode is simply a one way valve for electricity. Check it with a test light and install it so the power flows away from the ignition switch.
