I have A 68 Camaro base cupe w/ a 355 sb.It will not start when I turn the key. There is a short or something between the starter and the ignition. The starter is new and good. I have traced a working purple wire from the ignition back to a plug at the end of the stearing collum. From their I'm lost. I have traced (non-working) yellow wire and a puple wire from the starter to a plug type thing on the fire wall. I do not know what to do next. Please help!

If it's a colum shift automatic, there is a neutral safety switch on top of the colum near the firewall. It may be bad.
If it's a floor shift auto look on the floor shifter for the switch.
Get instructions on how to install it.

I had this problem a few months ago. Finally I realized it was the Neutral safety switch. I just pulled up (or pushed down) the lever that is on the column (under the hood) that is by the steering coupler. I'm not sure why it is on my car. I thought that they were only on manual trans cars.
