I have read some earlier posts and have gotten some good info but still need help. I checked my battery at idle and at 2000rpms with a volt meter and the current at the terminals read 12.3 volts both times. I'm confused here too because I read that it should be 14 something if properly working but with my external regulator shouldn't it not permit voltage over like 12.5? The next test I performed was a full field test where I disconnected my regulator and jumped the batt and field terminals. then at battery my voltage was at 16 to 17 when revved. So this told my that my alt is good and should be since brand new titan rebuild and my regulator is new too. My last test I need was at idle i turned my lights on and read the volt meter drop in current but it didn't pick up after a while, so this tells me my battery isn't getting juice from alt. So where does my problem lie? Could it be in the wiring harness some where causing a short? Help

What are you seeing out of the other alternator terminal? The "R" terminal or the white or light colored wire. Running a mechanical regulator? The R terminal needs around 8 volts to work the relay inside the regulator.
EDIT
I assume since you read past posts that your idiot light circuit is working OK.
