Ok so I am looking for another camaro to build since I had to sell mine. I have found a 67 RS with a 396 and 400 tranny. It is in a field so its tired but supposed to have a good body and complete car. Has a deluxe console I think with the guages in it. What would something like this be worth. It definately hasnt run in many years and will be a resto project. What would be a decent price range for a complete 396 rs car that needs to be built?

Thanks
Zack

What do they want for the car, its hard to say what a decent price is without seeing it.It being in a field doesnt make a good impression to me,from the mental picture I have form your description 4-5K and it would have to complete.Make sure you check it out good get it out of the field where you can really look under it and all.Good luck

Definately check completely under it b/c it could be almost all rusted out!!

Hope it is at least up off the ground on tires even if they are flat b/c I've seen cars sunken down with the floorpan flat on the ground and there wasn't much left...

Also depends on if its an original 396 car and if it has the original block.

I believe the TH400 was only available w/396.

I'd buy a real TEXAS field car in a minute... they just don't get the moisture the cars up here get. I bought a '71 field car that was "too far gone" for the locals to bother with... got it back here and everyone wanted to know where I found such a straight car, and we don't get really really bad rust here, unless it's stored on the ground USUALLY. So a Texas field car wouldn't worry me! smile.gif A Kansas or Missouri car would though! As for value? I just sold a small block '68 in similar condition as I'm assuming for $2500, it wasn't an RS, BBC and it's a 68 so I'd add some there.

But I'd think 4-5K sounds about right, if it has a CLEAR title, yeah, you can get a title, but it's a hassle and you never know for sure! More given a better scenerio (ie original 396 desirable color, no rust etc.)

I agree that one should get a serious look at. As long as there wasn't constant moisture, being parked on the Texas dirt may not kill it. I bought a 68 camaro "field car" that sat for more than 6 years in Riverside Ca. Probably 6 inches of yearly rain there vs Texas 20 inches though. Very little rust from the dirt & moisture but man there sure were a lot of spiders. By the way, home depot sells some stuff called hot shot spider killer. One for the underside and one for the interior and they will be gone including the widows.

Gotta love those Texas cars...sorry a little biased...thats where mine came from. Being from the northeast it still amazes me at how a car that old can be that clean in all the areas we are so used to seeing rot out. One question though...you did say it was just an RS not RS/SS becuase being just an RS obviously answers the question of whether or not it was an original 396 car.
