Help! I'm not an electrician by any means and sure could use somebodys help. I have a 68 camaro 327, auto. In the fuse block at the bottom under dash there is a spot for a 4amp fuse that says inst lps. Both sides of fuse holder are dead all the time with or without headlight switch. All other fuses work perfectly. Behind fuse block where inst lps fuse is there are 2 wires, 1 grey 1 green. I cannot tell where the wires lead to. Can somebody tell me where the problem might be as I have no insrument lights. Thanks, Jim.

The green wire comes from the headlight switch plug to the fusebox, and the gray wire goes from the fusebox to the instrument panel plug, and on to the heater control panel bulb and ashtray light.

Oh brother! I’ve got to pay attention to what I’m reading or go to bed earlier. I pulled the tape off a 67 harness to see where they went..... http://www.camaros.net/forum/rolleyes.gif but I’m sure they go the same place on a 68.

So Mr. Geezer...I guess I check for power at the green wire at the lite switch? If no power there any suggestions? Thanks alot.

If you don’t have 12 volts at the headlight switch green wire, the switch might be toast... Do the rest of the lights work? If they do you might have lost the ground at the screw above the high beam indicator light. Another problem area with the first generation F bodies is the dimmer switch, the connectors get dirty and corroded under the carpet and cause all kind of havoc with the power feed to the lights.

Be sure that the headlight switch knob is turned all the way clockwise. There is a rheostat inside the switch that controls the brightness of the dash lights. If it is turned all the way counter-clockwise, the lights will not be on.

Do the outside running (tail light) lights work? The same input to the dimmer switch also works the running lights. Doesn't sound like a ground problem.
