View Full Version : Horn button trouble

I just replaced an aftermarket steering wheel with the correct one in my '67. Before I switched it, the horn worked fine. Now, I either get continuous horn, or nothing at all. How tight should the three screws that go through the plastic insulator be? I didn't pay attention when I took the old wheel off graemlins/clonk.gif
I have the spring plate on with the concave side out, is this correct? I'm not sure I see how it works, the contact pin is in constant contact with the back of the spring plate, right? If so, what happens when the spring plate flexes?

Thanks,
Brian

The belleville spring (spring plate) should be installed like this. column ) wheel

With the spring installed like that, it follows the same contour as the inside of the wheel, and I don't get any spring action. What I still don't understand is no matter which way I install it, I still have a constant connection between the contact button and the wheel, which seems to complete the circuit. What am I missing? Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the help, I got it last nite. The spring plate does go on as you described with the concave part away from you as you are sitting in the seat. I ended up using an aftermarket insulator ring, the bosses on it are higher than the original which seems to keep the plate from making contact in the middle until you press on it.

Thanks,
Brian
