Can someone tell me what amp fuse I need for instrument lights? I have tried a 5 amp but after several mins It blows? I just bought the car (68SS/rs) and the fuse was missing. The fuse only seems to control the dash/console lights which work until fuse blows. thanks

If the fuse was missing when you bought it, it may have a short in the circuit somewhere that the previous owner gave up on. I personally wouldn't have a problem trying a 15 amp fuse but not after some priliminary investigation. If you are inclined, you might want to take out the dash carrier and check the plastic circuit board on the back of the speedometer/gas guage(I noticed mine has some wear through the plastic--coming close to allowing a short--insulate this with a non conducting barrier. Otherwise, trace wires until you find something abnormal. Then try a larger fuse like 10 or 15 amp---keep watch and smell for smoke!!

I'm not sure about the factory rating. Not sure if the assembly manual has that info. I should invest in one of those. Good luck.

I've got a 69 RS and it uses a 4 Amp fuse. But I'm having trouble with mine also but looking under the dash I can see why - the previous owner had some sort of electrical problem - I saw a few melted and burnt wires. Eventually I'll replace dash wiring harness.
