Ok here it goes...

My original fuel gauge worked fine after I replaced the sender a couple of months ago. I am currently going with the all autometer set up. I used the tan wire in the middle of the dash connector to hook up to the sender terminal on the new autometer fuel gauge. The guage itself is grounded to the dash (a good ground). Thge problem is that it will not move from Empty. When I test the tan hot wire (key on) I get about 1-3 ohms. The directions say that the newgauge should be grounded to the tank ground. How can this be when the original guage was grounded to the dash?

Inquring minds want to know...

Tan "hot" wire???
Most aftermarket gauges require 3 wires...switched 12V a ground and the wire from the sending unit...

If I remember right autometer does say to ground the gauge to the tank in addion to the sending unit wire....
I'm just guessing that that was for numerous tech calls from ppl with plastic fuel cells and metal tanks with bad factory grounds...
Your dash ground should suffice since everything worked after You replaced the sending unit...

"Hot" is not the correct term for the tan sender unit wire, my fault. That is the only way to keep this electrical crap straight in my little mind.

I do have the gauge attached to a 12V switched source. I added about 5 gallons of fuel just to see what would happen, and the guage moved to the "empty line" (rather than on the "E" itself).

Any more suggestions?
