About 6 months ago I converted my 3 wire stock alternator to a single wire chrome job I picked up at a Good Guys show ($85). It looked good and was running about 14 volts on my autometer gage that I installed. I noticed yesterday that the voltage had dropped to about 13.5 volts and I am hearing some noise from the alternator. I think I will go back to a externally regulated unit as I think they are more reliable. Does anyone have a recommended unit they are happy with? My sound system is nothing hot, couple hundred amps max, so no big demand there.
