I have a 69 with console gauges and the temp gauge is not working. Does anyone know how to test the sending unit with a volt/ohm meter to see if it is broke? Are there any tests I can do on the gauge itself? Thanks for any help, this is a great web page for info!

Pull the wire off the sender in the block. With the key on, touch the lead to the block. If the gauge doesn't peg high then there is a problem with the gauge or the wire to the sender. If the gauge pegs then the problem is with the sender.
If the gauge doesn't move, make sure there is 12V at the gauge.
Chack the resistance to the sender from the connector at the gauge. It should be somewhere around 300 ohms with the engine cool. It will be less than that if the engine is hot. If it's open circuited (infinate resistance) chec to make sure the wire hasn't burn't off on the exhuast manifold or headers.

Are these repro gauges or originals? I put a set of repro. console gauges in my 69. If I remember right, the temp gauge has a ground wire that hooks to the gauge housing. If youre not getting power to it, you may want to check that.
