I changed the spark plugs on my 87 Z-28, but i'm not feeling any change in it's performence. In fact, it seems to be running worse!! It's a 305, tuned port injection, and i used accell rapid fire plugs. They claimed to be pre-gaped, so i didn't check them, should i have? Also, are there any tips to routing the ignition wires? Is 7mm good? I'll have more info about the wires later. Thanx for any advice you guys can give.

They were probably pre-gapped but if the shipper dropped the box, or the parts store guy dropped the box, or the guy who bought them and gapped them wrong returned them because they did not fit....You get my drift http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
They will not make your car faster IMHO. I would stick with the factory style plug unless they stopped making them or you need a different heat range. If these newfangled plugs are so good, why do the car manufacturers not use them to gain a tenth or so?
Just Hype.
7MM wires are not good enough for your ignition system. You need the 8mm minimum. How did you hook them up to the cap?

I don't understand what you mean by "how" i hooked them up to the cap. They just snapped on. Thanx for the advice about the wires, i'll change them this weekend. What could i do for a cheap ($100-200) upgrade for my car? Right now it runs 15.131 for the 1/4 mile.

Mark-
There are lots of reasons why they wouldn't hvae used those plugs!! Those spark plugs would greatly increase manufacturing costs, and GM is not going to spend any more money then they have to. And we're talking about the 1980's, when America's quality control was almost non-existant.
But I agree though, they aren't going to make your car run any better than other plugs. People always are impressed on how much more power their spark plugs give them, after which their car was due for a tune up...so their car is running at a more-normal performance level.

The reason I ask about the wires is the usual 7mm wires I have seen had the wrong ends for that style cap. I don't know much about newer cars. I would be thinking about a matched combination that would cost more than $100-$200 total but something you could do in pieces like one at a time. Chip, cam, exhaust mods come to mind. I would save the ignition mods for later at this point as it probably is doing the job if it is in good condition. Good luck,
