I need some info! Need to know what wire is on the inside on the starter on a 68 camaro purple or yellow and also I have installed a msd 6al and dist. On the original wiring there is two wires for the coil do I leave that or do I cut one out I thought one was a resistor wire and didn't think I needed both any help is needed thanks!

The two wires on the solenoid...
one is the starter trip wire. (closest to the block)(labled s on solenoid)
the other is the resistor bypass wire.
(labled r on solenoid)
if you have disabled the resistor (most likely with msd electronic dist's) you only need the starter trip wire connected (energized when ign. key is in start position)

The wire going to the positive side of the coil on 69 camaros is sheilded in some sort of fiberglass insulation, this wire is a resistor wire, it only gives 9 volts of juice...
Your msd setup may require full battery voltage for proper opperation

I was told that my coil wire will have to be changed to supply 12 volts all the time with my msd 6al box does anyone know if this is true?

You will need a full 12 volts to the coil..here is how i did mine: the people at painless wiring sent me some of the stock type lugs that fit in the fuse box plug on the firewall..i removed my existing resistor coil wire from the entire harness and redid another 14 guage wire directly to the fuse box plug right where the old one use to be...put it all back together and it looks completly stock....

you do not have to go to all that trouble..just run a 14 guage wire from the fuse box at a spot when u have 12 volts with the ign on to your coil...that is the easy way

Get the instruction sheet from MSD !!!.....If You do not have it go to their website and download it.....there should be no wires going to the coil except the two designated wires from the box...You will have to hook up 2 12 volt sources...a heavy guage wire from the battery and a small guage wire from a switched ignition source....also most of these require these require the diode installed to eliminate run on after the key in switched to off...and so on...the directions will give You all the necessary info......Billy
