Hey Russell, I don't have a manual handy for your car, But most GM cars with daytime running lights that use the headlights for DRL have a module that controls this. It lights the high beam headlights but runs them in a series instead of parallel. This gives them approximatly 1/2 voltage. Not sure, but your car may have a Body control module that the DRL module is tied in with. It controls many, many things on the car and you really don't want to mess with it. Hope this helps-Don't want you to wake up any electrical gremlins-Dan in WV

Just lift the park brake lever one notch and the day time lights should go out then turn on the park lights manualy.

You can also usually disable the DRL system by pulling the fuse. My 98 GMC Sierra was that way, and I just wired up a switch to the fuse.

Word of caution!!! Lifting or applying the "E" brake or parking brake 1 click disables your ABS if I remember correctly. There was a good thread here on it. I will look for it and post later if I find it!!

Edit: This is for a 2000 Camaro but might give you some insight.. www.xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html (http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html)
