View Full Version : Antenna Wire Question

My 68 comes out of the trim shop in two weeks then the exhaust goes in and on the road.

I prefer to not have to drill a hole in the fender for the antenna. I am hoping someone has used a wire antenna and has had success with it.

Can it run to a place in the trunk? Is it a window only wire?

If anyone has used these wires please pass on your experience and the better brands I should purchase.

Thanks.

Ken

Antennas need reflective ground planes to work adequately. The cars body provides this signal amplifying feat being a metal surface and usually wires or antennas put inside do not work. The only exception that I have ever seen to this was a guy using a streetrod antenna (for use with fiberglass) in his convertible top...but still not strong.

There are some wire antennas that came in the front windshield that worked in the 70s, and I would suppose emulation of that idea would work as long as you have the matching impedance correct. You could epoxy (clear)a piano wire to the inside at the top edges of the windshield to make work, but no guarantees.

The only sure fire way is just cut the hole and put an electric Harrada in...works well.
