I just got a 68 camaro and the fuel gauge isn't working. Before the needle was a lil past the half mark and one day it went all the way past the full line. What can i do to solve this problem?

I cant remember if my gauge on my 68 showed full or empty, but the problem was the connection in the tank, where the sender wire goes thru the top of the sender. What I would do is,unplug the sender, inside the trunk.Turn the key on and have someone watch the fuel gauge.Touch the fuel gauge wire to ground. The gauge should move.If it does, more than likley the sender's the problem. But, before you spend money on a new sender, ohm out the old one, to see if the connection's the problem. This happened to both of my 68's.
