I installed a New Factory style tach in my 69 purchased from Classic Industries I wired it according to the marked terminals on the rear of the Tach, Started the car and Bingo I have a tachometer, well that is up to about 3400 rpm then the Tach wants to Flutter around and stay there. I have a Accel Super coil on a HEI distributor ( was in the car when purchased ). I seemed to remember reading something about installing a resistor in the Neg Coil lead to the tach but cant find the post. Or do I have another problem I need to be aware of to get it working correct ?

Not aware that adding resistance to the tach input line would reduce flutter. Maybe something I haven't learned yet. Cars with a MSD box run into problems because of multiple pulses to the tach. Doesn't sound like your problem because of your set-up.
If I had to guess, assuming the tach is good, I'd suspect noise. Without a scope on the tach line, it's hard to prove. Things you might want to try. Add a separate ground wire from the tach ground terminal to the frame. This could be just a jumper in order to try things. Add or clean engine ground straps to the frame and from the frame to the body. Best I can think of without a scope.

Problem Solved Seems the distributor itself was shot, Alot of slop in the shaft, Module not working correct, Vacuum advance shot to the point that the housing was < Get this > Full of Gasoline. Well i opted not to go MSD at this point being the motor is Basicly stock so I hit a local speed shop and had a Chat with the owner who Promptly set me up a New Accel Preformance HEI distributor, Now im getting happier with the car http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
