or, even an alcs pennant for that matter tongue.gif . i really love to see such an overpaid team full of egomaniacs not succeed. the best part, not only did they blow a 3 game lead, but then they got iced on thier own field. sorry NY people, nothing personal, i am just one of the many who really cant stand the yankees, or steinbrenners' bottomless wallet.
so now who's your daddy? boston thats who. :D and sorry again NY fans, i am just thoroughly enjoying this right now. anyone else see the game tonight?

FWIW Boston is the second highest paid team.

I'm enjoying it too. And I'm surrounded with Yankees fans here in NJ. The strangest thing is that my oldest brother who is a big Yankees fan said Boston was going to win the series this year because they're due. Hmmm, I don't know if I want to play poker with him tonight.

I agree, it would have been better if Minnesota would have beat them also. Who cares as long as it isnt the Yankees.

I couldn't agree more. I am a Yankee hater I will admit. While Boston might have the second highest payroll, it was done to defeat the Yankees and they were succesful. Now if the Cardinals can pull it off and the win the World Series that would be even better.

while i agree i'm not a huge boston fan (not a big pedro fan), they are a much better alternative to NY. i am a NYY hater for sure. and whats with (most) thier fans? gotta be the rudest in baseball, sports maybe even.
fwiw, i looked up team payrolls, they are ; NY @ 184,193,950 (freakin incredible isnt it?),boston @ 127,193,950 (still a lot, but a cool 50 million less than NY  ) the cardinals @ 83,228,333 (100 mil less than NY) and houston @ 75,397,000. and my poor lowly mariners are 81,515,834 and still hold the record for most AL wins in a season, and tied for most in baseball (no world series, yet ;) )
just thought i'd throw that out there graemlins/beers.gif

I've been a Red Sox fan since I'm a kid and when they took Lowe out and put in Pedro, I about fell off of my chair. I thought, this can't be happening!!!!!!!!!! I waited till the game was over for 5 minutes to start celebrating, just to make sure we REALLY won (LOL). We're giving the bambino a big wake-up call this time. The Yankees can take their 26 rings and shove them up there .... well, anyway, I was at Fenway last week and the atmospere there is incredible. The evil empire is no more. Go Red Sox!!!!!!!!!!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Sean,
I always like to use the analogy that the Yanks winning every year is much like hydroplane racing...Miss Bud, Miss Bud, Miss Bud blah blah blah. it's the same story every year. I was pretty happy to see NY get shafted like that :D
I think we're due (Seattle) for some playoff wins soon graemlins/thumbsup.gif We'll just have to sell more Starbucks to pay the top guys enough to win.lol

Between the Red Sox and the Patriots, let me tell you, NO ONE in New England is getting any damn sleep at all.

People are walking zombies in the office.

I'm pretty proud of the Sox. They play like a team. (Hmmmmm, sounds like the Pats.)

There's tons of PR crap associated with sports and you hear it in almost every interview but Shilling is the real deal. He was on a local radio talk show and unloaded on the fans. It wasn't a pollitically correct quick statement - he dwelled on it for quite a while.

There was no reason for that girl to have died and it is the fault of the fans - not the cop. :(

Trying to put that tragic events aside, win or lose, this is season will be talked about for years to come.

Money cant buy everything? It bought Boston a trip to the world series. They are the second highest paid team you know. Now everyone can jump on them ffor buying a world series right? Oh wait they didnt win yet.

yes boston is the second highest paid, but 50 freakin million behind NY  , thats the kicker as far as i'm concerned. they also must have a seperate locker room for all the ego on that team. i would love to see the cards win, just for the money reason alone, plus i dont really care for pedro martinez. the second issue i have with the yanks is thier fans (most of them) are jackasses, a game in new york cant feel safe giving souvenir bats, balls, etc, because they innevitably end up as weapons against the away team, strewn all over the field, what is up with that? there is always a drunk jackass in every sports stadium, but it seems NY has an extremely high number. now, for the record, i am not lumping all fans together, nor am i trying to pi$$ anyone off, just a little freindly yankee hating, thats all... ;)

NY fans may get wild but i don't remember them rioting or any deaths when they won the ALCS or even the series.I dont think there was ever any talk of banning alchohol in the bars around the stadium during the series like there had been in Boston either.

Yankee stadium also isn't right in the middle of 4 or 5 major college campuses. Yes, Boston fans are idiots for the most part, but what you saw on TV was mostly students from BC, BU and Northeastern with nothing better to do than get drunk either in the local bars or in their Dorms and then go tear up private property.

We typically loose one or two people everytime a boston team picks up a championship. 9 times out of 10 its out of stupidity (although this time the poor girl was just in the wrong place at the wrong time). Last year a college student got hit by a car and killed because (according to the court case) idiots were banging on and rocking the car with someone in it and the driver just tried to get away. A few years ago some other idiot was carrying a peice of the goal post ripped out of Sullivan stadium when the Pat's were going to the Superbowl and got electrocuted when the pole hit a high voltage line out on Rt. 1 which runs by the stadium. Every town has their fair share of sports idiots, Boston just seems to have more.

When the Red Sox win the Series you won't want to be in Boston, without a flack vest and a fireproof car, especially if the do it at Fenway Park.

Lowell was sending 9 motorcycles and _x_ personell to help Boston last Saturday night. I have no idea what the overall area contribution were but I'm sure there will be a substancial increase for each game. I'm hoping for lots of plain clothes so they can mix in and stop the idiots.

Too many people think they can climb up on some poor working stiffs car and jump up and down on the roof. What the hell is that all about? I'd just love to find my truck with the roof caved in.

Deb and I were thinking about watching one of the games at Bill's Bar at the end of Landsdown Street - just to be a part of the Fenway Park excitement. We are very glad we didn't go now.

Still, the Sox are playing well. They're my team. I'm a part of Red Sox Nation.

Where's Louisiana anyway? tongue.gif

Mark, the Goal post story almost sounds like it came out of the Darwin Awards.

Its between TX and Miss. Believe me, i'd much rather be back UP where i was born and raised. smile.gif BTW I was at Yankee stadium last year when Aron Boone hit the walk off home run and i don't remember so much as a scuffle. So much for the theory that Yankees fans are unruly Jackasses. Seems like Boston has more of problem.

Not a Yankee hater, but I really wished them to fall on their faces this playoff season. Back In July I posted how much distain I had for Joe Torre for what he did during the All-Star Game. First problem is that due to the large number of Yankee fans they were able to vote in two players that were not deserving of All-Star recognition, Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi. At the time of their being named to the team they were .220 and .230 hitters. This is not a problem unique to the Yankees, but they certainly aren't deserving of a reward to a successful season with those kind of numbers.

The reason I was frustrated with Torre was he poured salt in the wounds. In Detroit there is very little to be thankful for in the baseball world. However Carlos Guillen was fourth or fifth in the American League in batting and an excellent defensive shortstop as well. He and Pudge Rodriguez were the lone two Tigers on the team. Torre choose to start Jeter, a .220 hitter and play him 5 innings. The only player not to get in the game on both teams was.......Guillen. The best hitting shortstop in the American League. At the very least Tejada should have started. I used to defend the Yankees by saying they simply were confident, but it really looks like they may have the arrogance that many accuse them of after all.

Jeter didn't deserve to make the team and Torre threw it in our face by starting him. For that the Yankees and Torre deserve exactly what they got this post season. A total Sox spanking! I hope they do it again next year. Looks like the Yankees have a new Daddy!
