after putting my 85 camaro back together with new motor an new paint under hood and reparing any wire harness probs i now can not use my highbeams. As soon as i click them on i loose all lights in an out for anywhere to 3 to half hour. checked all grounds still no idea help. The car is a 85 z28 converted to a 530 horse carberated samll block from a 305 tune port

I would think you are missing a ground from the body to the engine, Use a booster cable, hooked on to a good engine point and the other to a good body point. Try your lights now, If they go out, leave the lights on, and try for a better connection on your cables,
Check the groub cable from the battery to the engine.
